Winter One-derland 1st Birthday Party: Inspiration Board

Mia’s first birthday party was this weekend and we are EXHAUSTED.  I can’t wait to go to bed at 9pm every night this week and get a massage on Saturday.  It was a long month of shopping at Michael’s/Joann and crafting, but everything turned out just how I wanted and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! I’m actually thinking about next year’s party already J

My vision -
When I was 38 weeks pregnant, Doug and I watched the weather as usual, and Jerry Taft said there was a big snow storm headed our way. So Doug told Mia (in my belly) to wait until the storm passes before coming.  Sure enough, the one day that we get 10 inches of snow, Mia arrived!  So for her 1st birthday party, I thought it’d be perfectly fitting to have a Winter One-derland. And, since her birthday is after the holidays, I knew I’d score awesome wintery deals. J Also, since Mia isn’t in love with any one thing in particular yet, I figure now’s my chance to do a party how I want J Come next year, I’m sure she’ll have a full blown personality with clear likes and dislikes.

When I told my sister in law (the gracious hostess) the Winter One-derland idea, she asked if there were going to be snowflakes plastered all over her house. Nope! I wanted to create a cozy wintery atmosphere without a single sign of a snowflake.  I also wanted to stem away from the traditional girly pink and envisioned a white, silvery and lavender color scheme.

A few weeks prior, I walked Doug through the house with papers, lists and drawings in hand.  I explained what I was going to do with each room and he said “Wow, you look like a real party planner.” I squealed with excitement! What a compliment J Maybe I can do this!

It’ll take some time to go through my pictures and pick out the ones I want to show you.  So in the mean time have a second sneak peek by checking out my inspiration board of just a few ideas that were furiously running around in my head all month. I’ll try to give credit to the sources the best I can recall. Check back later this week for full party details.
